Bubble Reef Bubble Reef

BAFTA Multimedia Awards Nominee

Special Access Features: switch (keyboard)

Aimed at Maths Key Stage 1, Bubble Reef is another new product from the link between Knowsley LEA, John Moore's University and Inclusive Technology. Designed by teachers and Advisors working with pupils from Knowsley LEA, all twelve activities have been designed to support and practise mathematical skills required at KS1.

Bubble Reef is an underwater adventure where you meet a variety of aquatic characters including:

  • Burper who has drunk too much pop.
  • The Meemees who are in a muddle and need to be put in the correct sequence.
Bubble Reef can be used as a part of the daily mathematics lesson, with the teacher selecting up to 5 games for children to play in groups of 2 or 3. There are up to 12 games for the teacher to choose from, most at 3 levels of difficulty: Reception, Year One and Year Two.

The program also caters for children with special needs, offering the options of single and double switch access with control over scan speed.

The games cover many areas of the National Curriculum at Levels 1 - 3, such as recognising numerals, counting objects, sequencing, doubles and halves, addition, subtraction and multiplication.

A recording system is built into Bubble Reef that enables teachers to read and print out a text-based group report. Screenshots of each game can also be printed out for use in the plenary session.

Thirty four pages of worksheets have been carefully devised for the programme by content specialists Charlotte Madine and Neil Hall. These and other teacher's resources designed for use with and away from the computer can be accessed from the info screen.
